Hiding Out

Antonin spent most of the rest of that day sitting in the car while Dariya took over. She drove to the hotel and checked him out, then took him somewhere else. He wasn't entirely sure where it was, she just drove down some side roads. Endless twists and turns eventually led them to a large grey building. It looked a lot like an abandoned warehouse.

Dariya stopped the car. "Wait here, I have to check something,” she told him, before getting out.

Time seemed to pass very slowly, and he began to wonder what she was doing. Why would she have to check something? If it wasn't safe already, then why had she brought him here?

He had expected 'somewhere to lay low' to be another hotel or something, but the more he thought about it, the less sense it made. The local hotels would be the first places Vladimir would look for him. No one was likely to look for him here. Even he didn't really know where 'here' was, after all. So, it was the perfect hiding spot.

But he still hated it. He hated hiding, acting like a fugitive when he was the one in the right. And he was still confused by the nature of this place and what Dariya was preparing. He had to accept it though, he had to sit tight and wait for her because the Volkovs really did run this city. They would hunt him down.

The only other place to go was home. But this wasn't over. It wouldn't be over until arrests were made and the case had been through court. He couldn't abandon it now, even if he was in danger. So, he had to go along with whatever Dariya's plan was and hope it worked out for the best.

She soon re-emerged and nodded to him. "It's alright, I just wanted to make sure the power still works. It's been abandoned for a while and I didn't want to leave you without power at all,” she explained.

He could understand that. If he was going to have to be here for a while, he didn't want to be stuck in the dark all the time, "And it's connected?” he checked.

"Yeah,” she nodded again, "All connected. Lights still work. I checked the water in the toilet too, so you have that. I'll bring some food and bedding over when I get a chance."

Well, it looked like he was going to be living with just the essentials for a while... He tried not to mind too much. In his current position, it was good of her to find him somewhere to live and provide for him at all. Especially after their recent argument.

"Thanks,” he smiled as graciously as he could, finally getting out of the car. "I guess I'll go in and get settled. I'll see you... Whenever you can come,” he added, feeling a little sad to be saying goodbye to her.

It would probably be the longest that he had been separated from her for the mission, and he had grown quite close to her by now.
